Purpose and Anointing
By Min. Roi | Download
Friend, every believer has a specific purpose on earth. God created you specially for a divine purpose on earth. You are not an accident; you are a divine agenda waiting to be manifested in the world. You are not of this world; you are on a divine mission into the world. Jesus, speaking concerning the church in John 17:16–18, said, “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.” Every believer is “a sent one.” We are special envoys on a divine assignment on earth. The Bible says that before the creation of the earth, God knew everybody, and he planned and wrote the blueprint of everyone's life, and then he called us (Rom 8:29–30). Every believer is called by God; we have the calling of the King over our lives.
Therefore, there is no one without a divine purpose on earth. No man is a mistake. Your timing was just perfect to fit the divine plan. If you were destined to be John the Baptist, then there would be no need for you to be born at this age. If you were destined to be Peter and you are here on earth now, then you have missed the divine plan. You see, the same way we did not choose our time of birth, we do not choose the purpose of our time on earth.
Every creature, visible or invisible, has a purpose (Col 1:16). Angels and all the hosts of heaven, including animals, have a purpose, and if this is true, why are men so confused about life? Many people plan their lives and design for themselves a future. We ask ourselves questions like, “What do you want to be in the future?” Forgetting that we have a creator. Have you ever seen a product determine its purpose? No but this Babylonian system of independence from God began in Gen. 3. After man sinned, he tried to make clothes for himself and his wife and made a mess of himself by sowing a fig leaf suit, but when his creator came, he provided clothes for men and women. Every plan or purpose designed by man is like a fig leaf suit.
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” - Proverbs 14:12.
“The plan of God cannot be achieved in the energy of the flesh”– Bishop David Oyedepo
“So he answered and said to me: ‘this is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts” – Zechariah 4:6.
Thus, the Spirit of God is necessary for the divine purpose to be realized. Permit me to add that there is a relationship between an individual's anointing and their purpose. But we need to grasp certain basic facts in order to comprehend the connection between anointing and purpose.
Spiritual DNA
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
Friend, this demonstrates that every man in Christ—that is, every man who experiences a new birth—is a transformed being. One that was not created in the beginning; it was ordained in the beginning but created when we surrender our lives to Jesus (Isaiah 48:7). But you know, God's principal tool for creation is His word. The scripture tells us this very plainly from Hebrews 11:3 and John 1:1.
This new creature, which is the spirit of man (1 Pet. 3:4, 2 Cor. 4:16, Phil. 1:21-24) was created by the principal tool for creation; the word of God. 1 Peter 1:23, explains it, “Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.” Therefore, every believer at new birth was created by the spoken word of God.
When God formed me, what words did he speak? Have you ever wondered about this? What words did God speak in order to create you? In Genesis 2:7, God breathes into man to create him, but we know that creation is a product of the word of God. Therefore, the breath must have been the result of the words that God spoke over Adam. What words did God speak in order to create you? You see, the combination of those words is what I call spiritual DNA.
The first man to be born again from death to life was Jesus, the anointed one. We see his spiritual DNA in Hebrews chapter 1. The exact words that God spoke in order to create His new man;
“For to which of the angels did He ever say: “you are My Son, Today I have begotten You”? And again: “I will be to Him a Father, And He shall be to Me a Son”?”
“But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all the angels of God worship Him”
“But to the Son He says: “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom” - Hebrews 1:5-6,8
Kenneth Copeland said “And He (the Father) called Him God!”.
Here we see a list of phrases spoken by God when He was creating the new man of Jesus. Notice the words used here: “But when He AGAIN brings the firstborn into the world," "again,” because he’s referring to the recreation of the Spirit of Jesus. Remember I said He passed from death to life? That means He was born again. The scripture refers to Jesus after his resurrection as the firstborn from the dead (Col. 1:18). And in this process of creation, God spoke the following words:
“You are My Son, Today I have begotten You”
“I will be to Him a Father, And He shall be to Me a Son”
“Let all the angels of God worship Him”
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom”
Let me also add this: “So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: “you are My Son, Today I have begotten You”, as He also says in another place “you are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.” – Heb 5:5-6
So, you see part of the spiritual DNA of Jesus—the words spoken by God to create His new man and made Him sit in heavenly places (Eph 1:20-23). Friend, when scripture says you were born again by the word of God, it means they were words spoken by the Father in order create you. Therefore, every believer has a spiritual DNA.
Spiritual Identity
It is understandable that physical things were made from spiritual things (Heb 11:3), and the Apostle Paul said we can comprehend spiritual things from the physical things we observe (Rom 1:20). My point is, if God never made people with exactly the same finger prints, then He didn't create two people with exactly the same spiritual DNA.
There may be similarities in the spiritual DNA, but there is also something that sets an individual apart from others. Let's look at John the Baptist as a case study. The Bible says John will go forth “In the spirit and power of Elijah”(Lk 1:17). That means John will have part of the spiritual DNA of Elijah; that is, John will be created by the same words that were said to make Elijah who he was. But was John the Baptist, Elijah? No. John also had something peculiar about his spiritual DNA; words like “the voice of one crying in the wilderness” (John 1:23) were spoken over him.
Every born-again individual is the workmanship of God; therefore, there is something about our spiritual DNA that singles us out among every other believer (Eph 2:10, Eph 4:1, Rom. 12:4). This individuality in our spiritual DNA is what I call "spiritual identity."
God Foreknows and Predestinate
Friend, every product was created specially to do a specific thing(s). Even a shoe's design has something to do with its intended use. The shape of a bottle indicates that it was not intended to be used for turning soup. The shoe's designer has to have considered its intended use when creating it. Let me show you this real quick, follow me carefully so you can see this.
Before God created you and me, before the creation of this world, He knew us; He had foreknowledge of you and me. The Lord, speaking concerning Jeremiah, said, "Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee." (Jeh. 1:5). Every manufacturer knows the kind of product he wants to create, so God knew the kind of person He wanted to create, which is why He said, "I knew you...". David Oyedepo said, "We are a people of equal destinies," which means God foreknew, predestined, called, justified, and glorified each of us. After the foreknowledge of God, there is predestination.
Predestination, simply put, is to determine the future or the fate of something in advance; it is God writing out the plan and purpose for our lives. Here is what God said to Jeremiah: “And before thou camest forth out of the womb, I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations” (Jeh 1:5). Now see what the Apostle Paul said in 2 Timothy 1:9
Therefore, every believer's mission was predetermined by God before man was ever created. Because the purpose of a product dictates its appearance, it is only reasonable for a producer to know what he intends to produce and ascertain its purpose before beginning production.
It's the same thing with God. Now that we have seen that God foreknows and predestinates, the next thing he does is to call. I call this the process of creation.
The Process of Creation
Friend, follow me closely. I said that God's principal tool for creation is His word, and we saw that every believer was created by the spoken word of God. Which is what makes up the spiritual DNA of the believer. However, the process by which the spoken words that fashioned the believer were uttered is referred to as "calling." After the Lord knew and determined the purpose of the individual he wanted to create, He then started making up the spiritual DNA by speaking. That's what calling entails—God speaking our spiritual DNA through a process that simultaneously forms us!
Contrary to popular opinion, calling does not mean, "Hey you, come to ministry." No, it's what God called you when He formed you. For instance, if your purpose is 'to teach', so during creation, He called you "teacher." See, the purpose is what determines your spiritual DNA; it is what determines what the Lord called you when he formed you. Let's see some examples;
1. JESUS: He was destined to be a high priest so that he could carry his blood into the heavenly holies for our redemption (Heb 9:24–26, Rev 5:9–10). But you see, in the Old Testament, only Levites were allowed to be priests and high priests. Hebrews 7:14 “For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.” That means, being physically from Judah, he should not be able to fulfill his destiny as a high priest. Therefore, speaking concerning the spiritual DNA of Jesus in Hebrews 7:16, 17
“Who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life. For He testifies: “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.”
Therefore, among the words spoken that formed Jesus was “A priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.” So, for him to fulfill his destiny, God called him after the order of Melchizedek; that is part of his spiritual DNA.
2. JOHN THE BAPTIST: John was predestined to prepare the way for Jesus (Mal 3:1), so when he was created, he was called "the voice of one crying in the wilderness; make straight the way of the Lord" (Jn 1:23). He was also predestined "to turn the hearts of fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers..." (Mal 4:5–6), so the spiritual DNA of Elijah the prophet was spoken in the creation of John for him to fulfill his purpose. Here are the words of an angel in Luke 1:15–17. Every believer has a purpose, and God called (created, made) each one of us according to our purpose.
3. ISAIAH THE PROPHET: Isaiah 49:1-3
1 “Listen, O coastlands, to Me,
And take heed, you peoples from afar!
The Lord has called Me from the womb;
From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name.
2 And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword;
In the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me,
And made Me a polished shaft;
In His quiver He has hidden Me.”
3 “And He said to me,
‘You are My servant, O Israel,
In whom I will be glorified.’
He was predestined to serve God, so when God created (called, made) him, he said ‘You are My servant, O Israel. In whom I will be glorified.’ When Isaiah discovered his spiritual DNA, he discovered his purpose and he exclaimed in Isaiah 49:4 “Then I said, ‘I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and in vain; Yet surely my just reward is with the Lord, And my work with my God.’ ” Discovery of your spiritual DNA is discovery of your purpose.
4. PAUL THE APOSTLE: Galatians 1:15-16
But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace, 16 to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood
Paul the Apostle, who was predestined to preach to the gentiles, said in 2 Timothy 1:9 “(God) who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,” Notice, he acknowledged that he was called (created or made) according to purpose. And he gave us part his spiritual DNA in 2 Timothy 1:11 “Whereunto, I am appointed (Called, created or made) a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.” Ephesians 3:7 “Whereof I was made(called) a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God (purpose of God) given unto me by the effectual working of his power (in new birth).”
Friend, drawing from all we have looked at it is safe to say every believer is called according to purpose (Rom 8:28). We have seen that there is a link between the purpose of a man and his spiritual DNA.
The Anointing Compliments the Purpose
After discussing spiritual DNA and how it relates to a person's purpose, allow me to now discuss the connection between a man's anointing and his purpose, which establishes his spiritual DNA.
Friend, it was Bishop David Oyedepo, who said, No divine plan can be fulfilled in the energy of the flesh (Zech. 4:6). Even Jesus, though he was destined to sit in all five offices and created as such, still needed the anointing of God to function in what he had been called. We step into our divine purpose and calling at new birth (2 Corn 5:17, 1 Pet 1:23, Eph 3:7), but we are empowered to walk in that which the Lord has called us when we are baptized in the Holy Ghost (Acts 1:8, Acts 10:38).
I would like to point out to your attention that the power of God comes for the purpose of God. We are anointed to fulfill God's plan and purpose for our lives. In the same way we are called into different purposes on earth, we are anointed individually to fulfill that peculiar purpose. What is one that is called into business doing with the teaching anointing? The anointing, which is “the ability to” do or stand where ever God called you, if He didn't call you there, then there is no need to anoint you to stand there.
As a result, it is clear that both our purpose and anointing have a connection with our spiritual DNA. The Bible states clearly in Acts 1:8, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
And we know that "the Holy Spirit is not a twin"—Kenneth Hagin. So, it is the same Spirit that every one of us received (Eph 4:4, 1 Cor. 12:12–13). I stated that although we entered into what God had called us to at our new birth, we are given divine ability for purpose when the Spirit descends upon us. (Acts 1:8). Now let's look at Acts 2:1–4. It is known that approximately one hundred and twenty individuals, all born again and called to distinct purposes, were present in the top room on that particular day. And we concluded that the Holy Spirit empowers for purpose at the baptism of the Spirit, but all of them received the same Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers for purpose, but all of us received the same Spirit, how then is our purpose and spiritual DNA put into consideration when we get baptized in the Spirit?
“There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.”
1 Cor. 12:4.
The word gift there is interpreted as "charisma" in Greek, which means "grace-gifts." The word 'grace' is interpreted as "charis". Now let me show you what Paul said in Ephesians 3:2,8,9.
2 If indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you
He was referring to grace here as God's plan and purpose for his life; that is why he said, “Whereof I was made (called) a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God (the plan of God) unto me” (Eph 4:7). In Col. 1:25, he said, “Whereof I am made (called) a minister, according to the dispensation (grace or plan) of God...”, and in 2 Timothy 1:9, “Who hath saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace.”
Therefore, the grace here is the plan and purpose of our lives. Now, back to 1 Cor. 12:4. “There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.” Now you understand better when I say gifts, which is translated as "charisma" or "grace-gifts," means gifts that complement our grace or purpose in God. So, everyone is baptized and receives the same spirit, but this same spirit has diversities of gifts, and he divides them among every man according to their grace or purpose.
“But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.” - 1 Cor. 12:11
That is why you see that there are Apostles, Prophet and there are teachers, all received the same Spirit but the gifts were given according to their purpose. No wonder scripture says in 1 Corinthians 12:29-30 “Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with diversities of tongues? do all interpret?” Why? Because not everybody needs these gifts, gifts (anointing) are given according to purpose, that is why they are called grace-gifts, charisma.
But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore, He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men.” – Eph 4:7-8
Everyone has grace, and everyone has gifts to help them fulfill their purpose. See what Paul also said in Romans 12:4–7.
“For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching;”
We all do not have the same purpose, and God has given us gifts (anointing) differing according to the grace (purpose) given to us. In the Old Testament, we had three offices (purposes) where the Lord anointed men, namely, as kings, priests, or prophets. Everyone receives the same outpouring of the Spirit, but each one receives his gift according to his purpose. We also saw men like the four Hebrew boys called into politics with gifts of knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom; Daniel particularly had a gift of understanding visions and dreams (Dan 1:17).
Even in the New Testament, you find several gifts given to men according to their graces. Therefore, the gift of a man is given according to his spiritual DNA, because his spiritual DNA suits his purpose.
In conclusion, having discovered one's purpose, one should look for gifts that complement it. Oral Roberts said the best gift is the one that you need (1 Corn 12:31), and the gifts that you need are those that complement your spiritual DNA and purpose. So, I urge you to find your spiritual DNA so as to discover your purpose and use the knowledge to covet the best gifts.
Jesus is Lord!
