Significance of Grace

Introduction
We’ve heard so much about prayer, faith, giving, and other spiritual disciplines, but very little has been said about GRACE in the church today. Grace is one of the most misunderstood biblical subjects, often avoided by believers or misconstrued as an excuse for lasciviousness. However, just because some have taken it to the extreme doesn’t mean we should shy away from it. The fact that it has been misused only highlights the importance of understanding what the Word of God says about GRACE.
In my study of GRACE, I discovered that it is a profoundly significant aspect of the believer's life. I was led by the Lord to write on this subject, aiming to answer the question: Is GRACE significant in the life of a believer?
Grace saves
GRACE is one of the most significant subjects in Bible study. Friend, this is true because you can’t access salvation, healing, or prosperity without GRACE. But what makes GRACE so significant? Simply put, GRACE saves!
You see, the Apostle Paul said, “For by GRACE are ye saved through faith” (Ephesians 2:5). Notice, faith gives us access, but it is GRACE that saves us. In the days of Noah, millions perished, but the Bible says “eight souls were saved” (1 Peter 3:20). Why? Because “Noah found GRACE in the eyes of the LORD” (Genesis 6:8). Similarly, the children of Israel were in captivity for over 400 years until Moses, a man who found GRACE in the sight of the Lord, came to save them (Exodus 33:12). Even Gideon delivered Israel from the hands of the Midianites because he found GRACE in the sight of the Lord (Judges 6:10-22). Friend, GRACE is significant because it saves. Only those who find GRACE can access salvation, healing, prosperity, and deliverance.
God is Full of Grace
We have heard so much about prayer, faith, and giving, but very little about GRACE in the church today. I have repeatedly asserted that GRACE is a significant biblical subject because GRACE not only saves, but the Bible says God is FULL of GRACE.
John 1:14 states, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) FULL OF GRACE and truth.” The Bible also says that “He (Jesus) was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not,” but John testified, “We beheld his glory.” The “we” here refers to Peter, James, and John (the writer). They described the glory they beheld as being “full of GRACE.” Even King David testified that the “Lord is GRACIOUS.”
I don’t know about you but I’d like to dig deeper into something God is full of. You know, God is Love, so, Love is full of GRACE. No wonder the bible says GRACE saves because it is filled in GOD who is LOVE. Friend, GRACE is significant in the life of a believer because it saves, and God is full of GRACE.
Called By Grace
There are several reasons why GRACE is so significant, and one of them is found in Galatians 1:15 and 2 Timothy 1:9, where Paul explains that God “called us... not according to our works but according to His own purpose and GRACE, which was given to us before the world began.” GRACE is significant because we were called according to GRACE, and this GRACE was given before the foundations of the world. That means GRACE existed before the world was created. Well, of course it did! God existed before the world, and God is full of GRACE. God called us according to GRACE. To call means to CREATE. When God calls, He creates. When God speaks, He creates. God called or created us according to GRACE, meaning GRACE was the blueprint God used to form our being.
No wonder Paul said, “For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.” Why? Because before they became wise, mighty, or noble in this world, God created their being according to the prints of GRACE before the world began! Therefore, let no man glory in His presence. As Paul said, “I am what I am by the GRACE of God.” We all were created to be what we are (in Christ) by the GRACE of God.
Grace Helps
GRACE is significant because only those who find GRACE can receive help in times of need. Hebrews 4:16 puts it this way, “Let us come boldly to the throne of GRACE, that we may obtain mercy and find GRACE to help in time of need.” Those who found GRACE in God’s sight obtained help and saved their generation. Noah found help because he found GRACE.
GRACE is significant in the life of a believer because it takes GRACE to find help in times of need. Times of need are often seasons of deep desperation. For example, the widow whose debt was paid miraculously when the vessels of oil multiplied saw help because she found GRACE (2 Kings 4:1-7). Uzziah, who began to reign as king at the age of 16, was helped by God. The Bible puts it this way, “And GOD HELPED HIM against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gurbaal, and the Mehunims” (2 Chronicles 26:7).
Friend, the GOOD NEWS is that God is ready to help you! The Bible says, “The grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men” (Titus 2:11). The GRACE to help is hovering around you, ready to assist in your time of need.
Grace Is Given To All
GRACE is significant because “unto every one of us is GRACE given” (Ephesians 4:8). I don't know about you, but I'd like to pay attention to the things that God has given me. In the same way God gave us the measure of faith, He also gave every believer GRACE. Paul shared his testimony, saying, “Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this GRACE given…” In fact, he exclaimed, “I am what I am by the GRACE of God.”
GRACE is significant in your life because God has given you GRACE! This GRACE defines our specializations. It defines who we are in Christ. John the Beloved said, “Of his fullness have all we received, and GRACE for GRACE” (John 1:16). The GRACE you received from God saved you, created you, and helped you. When you find a person greatly helped by God, you’ve seen someone who knows and appreciates the GRACE they received from God.
Friend, the GRACE of God has appeared to all men! But not all are saved because not all have received that GRACE. However, everyone who is saved has received GRACE from the fullness of God. You have found GRACE in God.
Gifts Come By Grace
GRACE is significant because we were not only called or created according to GRACE, but we also received gifts or divine enablement according to GRACE. Romans 12:6 says, “Having then gifts differing according to the GRACE that is given to us.” God looks at the GRACE given to us before giving us His gifts. The gifts and calling of God are without repentance. We were called according to GRACE, which existed before the foundation of the world before we ever did any good or evil. Thus, God doesn’t look at our wrongs when giving us gifts because He grants gifts to us according to the GRACE we received before the world began.
This is why the gift and calling are without repentance—God doesn’t change, and He won’t change His mind now about the GRACE He gave us then. However, we can reject the GRACE and ultimately miss out on this gift and calling.
May GRACE help you comprehend this!
“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;” - Romans 12:6-7.
The kind of GRACE you receive determines the kind of GIFT you possess. This is why Paul said, “I am what I am by the GRACE of God.” The gifts come by GRACE. Your GIFTS are a pointer to the kind of GRACE you received.
God Expects Us To Grow In Grace
GRACE is significant because God expects us to “grow in GRACE” (2 Peter 3:18). Paul, in his teachings about the GRACE of God bestowed on the Church, listed the GRACES received by the Church from Jesus and admonished, “See that ye abound in this GRACE also” (2 Corinthians 8:1-7).
How can you grow in something you don’t know much about? God expects us to grow in GRACE. Peter said, “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you” (2 Peter 1:2), indicating that God not only wants us to grow in GRACE but also desires the GRACE He gave us to be multiplied. Concerning Jesus, the Bible says, “And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the GRACE of God was upon him” (Luke 2:40). He grew strong in spirit, wisdom, and GRACE.
Friend, I hope I’ve been able to peacefully argue this case, using Bible references and explanations to show that GRACE is indeed significant in the life of a believer and thus a vital subject to be studied and preached.
Summary:
God is full of GRACE.
GRACE came by Jesus Christ.
GRACE saves.
God gave us GRACE.
It takes GRACE to find help.
We were created and gifted according to GRACE.
We are expected to grow in GRACE.
Jesus is Lord!
